Celebrations, Atomic Habits and Reflection

Dear Parents,

At this stage of the year, we place particular importance on graduations and celebrations as we acknowledge the achievements and hard work of our children. These moments are more than ceremonies; they are opportunities to recognise effort, growth, and the habits that underpin success. We inculcate these in our classrooms and corridors through our curriculum, our values and high standards.

Celebrating children’s work, whether through a graduation, a primary showcase, or a simple moment of recognition in the corridor helps us all to see that progress is valued. It affirms that achievement is not only about outcomes, but about persistence, improvement, and character.

In the recent Year 6 Graduation, I talked about how our school encourages children to be resilient and hardworking because these qualities will support their future success. They are guided to understand the importance of being courageous and kind when facing challenges, recognising that difficulties are a natural part of their journey.

When things do not go to plan, they are reminded not to fear problems or mistakes. Although this can feel daunting, it is through making mistakes that character is shaped. By reflecting on their experiences, learning from them, and finding the determination to move forward, children develop the skills and mindset needed to become better tomorrow than they are today.

Many of you will know that I am a big fan of Atomic Habits by James Clear. In it he reminds us that success is built through small, consistent actions over time. Our role, as educators and families, is to help children reflect on these small steps: What did I learn? What did I improve? What will I do next? These reflections turn everyday efforts into lasting habits for learning and growth.

Graduations mark an important milestone, but it is the daily commitment to improvement that truly shapes each child’s journey. By valuing both reflection and recognition, we nurture confident, thoughtful learners who take pride in their achievements.

In the penultimate bulletin, II would like to extend my sincere thanks to all our Class Coordinators and PTA Volunteers for their ongoing dedication and unwavering support of our children and classes. Their commitment and care play a vital role in creating a positive and nurturing environment, ensuring that both students and staff feel supported each day. Their contributions, often behind the scenes, do not go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated by the entire school community.

A special thanks to Year 6 Graduation Committee for the amazing Year 6 Graduation Party on FriYay! It was a brilliant way to end the Term for our Graduating Year 6 children!
